Map of Indiana Seaplane Landing Areas:

Updated 1/19/2009

Note: Unlike other other Upper Midwest States, including Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota, Indiana does not have open waterways by default.

Landings are restricted only to bodies of water with established seaplane "bases" (actually landing areas.  A fixed base of operations is not required to establish a landing area.)

Only four lakes currently have Public Access for seaplanes:

  • Brookville Reservoir Seaplane Base (12I), Brookville, IN, Public Use, Contact: 765-647-2657
  • Lake Monroe Seaplane Base (07I), Bloomington, IN, Public Use, Contact: 812-837-9546
  • Mississinewa Reservoir Landing Area Seaplane Base (43I), Peru, IN, Public Use, Contact: 765-473-6528
  • Patoka Reservoir Landing Area Seaplane Base (06I), French Lick, IN, Public Use, Contact: 812-685-2464

Alert:  The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is seeking public comment on the possibility of opening 5 currently Private Use seaplane bases to Public Use.  Click here for more.
